Tanzania Development Trust would like to thank Ruth Harvey and Dan Wells for fundraising for TDT through their Kilimanjaro climb last December.Writing in the in-house corporate newsletter of her employers, James Fisher & Sons PLC, Ruth explained that the experience had been tough but extremely rewarding:

“Even though we’d been training for eight months with long walks in the Lakes, Peak District and the Welsh hills we had no idea how the altitude would affect us.

After five days walking you get up at 6am on the sixth day and walk to base camp where you are supposed to grab a little sleep ready for the summit climb which starts at midnight.

It was absolutely freezing, and I felt a little delirious at times through lack of oxygen but we reached the summit at 08:30am, stayed for just long enough to take in the spectacular views, then turned around and scrambled back down the mountain. That day was 14 hours of gruelling hiking.

It was tough – but definitely worth it,’ she says, ‘ and I’ve been overwhelmed by how generous everyone has been in helping me raise money to support local communities and initiatives there. Thank you all so much.”

Friends, family and colleagues donated an amazing £2,041, for which Ruth and Dan will select a specific project which will benefit a community in one of Tanzania’s poorest regions.

Tanzania Development Trust is grateful to all its fundraisers.  For many, we are an ideal partner, for two particular reasons:
