TDT Funding of £1550 was approved to support vulnerable women start growing Orange Flesh Sweet Potatoes (OFSP) in Nzega, Tabora Region.
The proposal came from CEDO, a well-respected NGO who have been working with women in the area for many years. Although OFSP is grown in the area, the nutritional value has not been recognised, but now with new varieties it is being promoted to improve family health and provide an income from selling excess to home requirements. This project has provided the money to supply irrigation equipment, tools and to purchase new improved OFSP cuttings. They intend to dry some of the roots to sell thus preserving the nutritional value, selling excess in the local market.
