💧 Clean Water for Mkima village – Sumbawanga District
-
Clean Water
Funding needed: £1,300
The Challenge
In Mkima village, 40 kilometres from Sumbawanga town, 2,690 people currently depend on a heavily contaminated water source for their daily needs. Unsafe water exposes families to preventable diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhoea, while women and children spend valuable time collecting water that may make them ill.
Our Solution
This project will construct a protected water point that will provide clean, safe spring water throughout the year. The need has been identified by both the local community and RUWASA (Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency), which selected Mkima as one of its priority villages for improved water access.
The project will be implemented by Edigar, TDT’s local representative, who has successfully delivered similar water projects. A skilled local fundi has been identified, village leaders are fully committed, and a community water committee has already been established to help oversee the water source and promote its long-term sustainability.
Villagers are contributing labour and materials towards the project, demonstrating strong local ownership and commitment.
The Lasting Impact
Access to clean water will mean better health, fewer waterborne diseases, and more time for children—especially girls—to attend school. With your support, these communities can look forward to a healthier, brighter future.
How You Can Help
Access to clean water will bring immediate improvements in health by reducing waterborne diseases and improving hygiene and sanitation. Families will spend less time collecting water and more time on education, farming, and other productive activities. The project will benefit 2,690 villagers, creating a healthier and more resilient community for years to come.
