A Big Step Forward for Tumaini – In Memory of Betty

We are deeply honoured to share that £10,000 from ‘Betty’s Fund’ has been generously donated to support the School for Young Mothers project, one of the initiatives closest to Betty’s heart.

Betty’s connection with Tanzania began during her gap year, when she spent time volunteering in schools and raising funds for small community projects that supported young girls and mothers. These experiences deeply shaped her values and inspired her decision to study Global Humanitarian Studies at UCL, with the dream of dedicating her career to building a fairer, more compassionate world.

Even before her passing, Betty had already become a valued volunteer with Tanzania Development Trust, helping to share stories of our work through social media. Supporting the School for Young Mothers is therefore a fitting tribute to her legacy—an initiative that uplifts young women, offers hope, and reflects Betty’s unwavering belief in education and opportunity for all.

This generous contribution will be used to fund the construction of a borehole, ensuring the school has a reliable and sustainable supply of clean water. Reliable access to water is essential—not only for the health and wellbeing of the young mothers and their children, but also for the success of the school’s vocational training in gardening and small-scale farming. This borehole will make the project stronger, more sustainable, and able to serve future generations.

We are profoundly grateful to everyone who has donated to Betty’s Fund, and we know that this project is one Betty herself would have been proud to support.

In memory of Betty
