Students helping with rock distribution.

This is an application made by the Headteacher of Mtangalanga Secondary School Newala District, Mtwara Region but supported by a small American NGO based in Newala, with a director Thomas Faber resident in Newala. The school has 675 pupils, 282 boys + 374 girls and out of these 160 are staying in a girls’ hostel. The application is for a toilet block (4 girls and 4 boys), one more water well for storing rainwater, a kitchen building for the girls’ hostel and 10 more hostel beds. With funds provided by the W F Carter Trust all was completed to budget and on time by March 2020; new toilet block, new kitchen, hostel beds and new water well. Amazing value for money.

Update, May 2021

After a lot of hard work, another phase of this fantastic project has now been completed! This means that in June, the hostel extension will be open for a further 50+ girls!

That’s another 50+ girls that are kept safe, given more time learning, and ensured a better education that they deserve!

The impact of this project is hard to put into words… To the students, it means someone cares about improving their lives.
