A request for funding was previously made for 20 women-headed households for this pig keeping project to increase their income generation and lift them out of abject poverty. This had to be reduced for two reasons: a lack of funds, and to see the impact this smaller project had before continuing with further funding.
The initial results of this smaller project has shown just how successful in lifting the women-headed households we had supported out of such poverty.
Due to the success, we want to continue this “pass-on-a-pig” system – where the beneficiaries pass on a female piglet to another vulnerable woman in the community on a rotational basis – with all of the 20 women that we were unable to fund last time, where they will also receive training and practical materials.
