BUDGET: £1,920

Ongoing: Muleba

The Revolving Goat Project has significantly improved the livelihoods of vulnerable families by providing them with goats that offer a sustainable source of income and nutrition.

TARGETING FOOD POVERTY

Many households in the area struggle with limited access to reliable income sources and poor nutrition. This project has provided an affordable and sustainable means of support, helping families generate income through goat rearing while improving their nutrition and overall quality of life.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

"I can now use goats` manure to fertilize my banana trees. I think in coming month my shamba will be producing more bananas."

HOW THE PROJECT WORKS

Each family receives a goat, which they are trained to care for, focusing on good animal husbandry practices. These goats provide milk, improving the family's nutritional intake, especially for children.

When the goat gives birth, the first offspring is passed on to another family in need, creating a revolving cycle of support. Each family, after passing on the first kid, is then free to use subsequent offspring for breeding, selling, or further expanding their herd.

The project also includes ongoing training and support to ensure that families have the skills needed to maintain the health and productivity of their goats. This guidance helps prevent common livestock diseases, improves goat management practices, and ensures the sustainability of the project, ultimately building resilience and long-term economic stability for the community.

REVOLVING AND EVOLVING

We aim to expand the project’s reach by increasing the number of families involved and enhancing support services, such as veterinary care and advanced training in animal husbandry.

The project also plans to introduce improved goat breeds to boost milk production and income potential for beneficiaries.

By building on its current success, the project seeks to deepen its impact, fostering greater economic resilience and sustainable livelihoods across the Muleba District.
