🪡Skills and Income for Young Women – Kagera Region

Funding needed: £2,000 (around £200 per woman)

The Challenge
Across poor rural communities in the Kagera region, many girls and young women aged 14–24 have no access to training, employment, or start-up capital. With few opportunities available, they are at risk of long-term poverty and exploitation and are unable to generate an independent income.

Our Solution

This women-led project will support a defined group of 10 young women, equipping them with practical tailoring skills and the resources needed to start earning a living. Funding will cover sewing machines and equipment, materials, training, and other start-up costs, tailored to the specific needs of each group.

Many of these projects are designed as ongoing training programmes. Once the initial group has been trained and supported to generate income, new groups of young women can be trained using the same equipment, allowing the impact to grow over time.

The Lasting Impact
For around £200 per woman, this project will enable young women to gain marketable skills, confidence, and a sustainable source of income. Over the medium term, the benefits will extend to many more young women, strengthening families and communities and reducing vulnerability across the region.

How You Can Help
